Why We Are Writing This
As the cyberdelic ecosystem continues to grow, we want to offer clarity on what it means to be part of the Cyberdelic Society, how official chapters are recognized, and what principles guide our expansion as a global network.
This is the kind of statement we should have published long ago. The fact that we are doing it now reflects lessons we have learned and are committed to acting on.
What Is the Cyberdelic Society?
The Cyberdelic Society is a global community network founded in 2017 and stewarded through the Cyberdelic Nexus. It exists to support individuals, communities, and practitioners working at the intersection of technology, art, culture, consciousness, and human flourishing.
Local chapters operate under the Cyberdelic Society name because they are part of this network, recognized through formal alignment, shared governance, and a mutual commitment to the mission and integrity of the broader ecosystem.
A Clarification on Affiliation
As our community has expanded, independent initiatives have emerged that use similar naming, language, or imagery. We welcome the growth of the cyberdelic paradigm. The more people exploring these frontiers, the better for everyone.
However, for the sake of clarity:
Not all initiatives using similar naming are affiliated with, recognized by, or authorized to represent the Cyberdelic Nexus or the global Cyberdelic Society network.
Official chapters and representatives are only those formally recognized through our governance, alignment, and stewardship processes. If you are ever unsure whether a local initiative, event, or representative is officially connected to the Cyberdelic Nexus or the Cyberdelic Society, please refer to our official channels or contact us directly.
Addressing the Question of Control
In recent weeks, some voices in the wider community have suggested that the Cyberdelic Nexus is seeking a monopoly over the Cyberdelic Society. We want to respond to that openly and with care, because the people raising these concerns are part of the same community we are building with.
We hear the deeper worry beneath the words: that a movement born from openness and shared inquiry could become captured, gated, or owned by any single entity. That concern is legitimate, and in truth we share it. A paradigm devoted to expanding human freedom should never become an instrument of control.
So let us be unambiguous. We do not seek to control the cyberdelic movement. No one can, and no one should. This movement belongs to everyone exploring these frontiers in good faith. What we are committed to is stewardship, not ownership: caring for the shared name, principles, and resources that keep this work safe and coherent, while leaving people free to create, lead, and innovate in their own contexts.
Our motivation is to protect the foundations and ethical frameworks this field depends on. The history of transformational movements is full of moments where the absence of structure allowed charismatic but self-serving individuals to concentrate power, distort the mission, and ultimately harm the very communities they claimed to serve. Guardrails are not about hierarchy or ego. They are how we keep space open for many voices and prevent any single personality from capturing the whole.
We would far rather be transparent about these intentions than let confusion grow in silence. Our door remains open to dialogue with anyone, including those who disagree with us, who shares a sincere commitment to building this paradigm with care, humility, and mutual respect.
What We Learned
We recently went through an experience that tested the boundaries of our chapter model. A local group we helped establish and supported substantially decided to part ways with the Cyberdelic Nexus.
We respect that decision. People and communities evolve.
What became difficult was that the separation was not accompanied by a change in naming or public positioning, which created confusion about what is and is not officially part of our network.
This taught us several things.
1. Trust Must Be Paired with Structure
We believed that shared values and goodwill were enough to sustain a chapter relationship. They are not. Without clear governance agreements from the start, misalignment is inevitable, no matter how strong the initial enthusiasm.
2. Brand Stewardship Requires Formal Agreements
Moving forward, every local chapter will operate under a formal chapter agreement that clearly outlines the use of the Cyberdelic Society name, intellectual property, and brand assets. This protects both the global network and the local community.
3. Accountability Is Not Control
One of the tensions we encountered was around governance. Asking for a designated point of contact, alignment with shared principles, and consent-based decision making is not centralized control. It is the minimum structure needed for a healthy, decentralized network to function.
4. Decentralization Without Guardrails Fragments Movements
A fully horizontal structure with no defined roles, responsibilities, or accountability mechanisms sounds ideal in theory. In practice, the absence of structure tends to concentrate power in unexpected places rather than distribute it, which is the opposite of what horizontal governance is meant to achieve.
Real autonomy does not mean everyone can claim the same identity while pulling in different directions. It means distributed leadership grounded in common principles, coherent governance, and a shared responsibility to protect the integrity of the vision.
5. Communities Deserve Access to Clear Information
When things change, people need to know. Going forward, we will ensure that our communities always have access to honest, transparent information through our own channels, so that individuals can make informed choices about where and how they participate.
The Chapter Recognition Framework
This experience has strengthened our resolve to build local chapters the right way. Here is the framework that will guide all current and future chapters:
The Chapter Recognition Framework
This experience has clarified how we want to support local chapters going forward. Here is the framework that will guide all current and future chapters:
Criteria for Official Recognition
An official Cyberdelic Society chapter must:
- Be mission-aligned. Demonstrate clear alignment with the values, vision, and purpose of the Cyberdelic Society and Cyberdelic Nexus.
- Operate within governance expectations. Respect the governance agreements, communication protocols, and stewardship expectations defined by the Nexus.
- Protect brand integrity. Use names, language, and visual identity in ways that do not create confusion, distortion, or reputational harm.
- Maintain ethical and professional conduct. Represent the organization in a manner consistent with its cultural, ethical, and operational standards.
- Participate in mutual accountability. Remain open to review, dialogue, conflict resolution, and corrective action where misalignment arises.
- Remain in good standing. Chapters in good standing retain full recognition. Where there is material conflict with the organization's mission, governance, integrity, or public trust, recognition may be reviewed and, where necessary, adjusted.
Recognition Status Categories
To support nuanced relationships across the ecosystem, we use four categories:
- Official Chapter. Fully recognized and authorized to publicly represent itself as part of the Cyberdelic Society.
- Emerging Chapter. In development, in dialogue, not yet fully recognized.
- Independent Aligned Initiative. Friendly or values-adjacent, but not authorized to represent itself as an official chapter.
- Non-Recognized Initiative. Not affiliated, not endorsed, and not authorized to represent the Nexus or Society.
A public list of currently recognized chapters and official representatives will be maintained through our official channels.
What Every Chapter Will Include
- Formal Chapter Agreements. Clear terms for brand usage, IP sharing, and mutual expectations.
- Designated Chapter Leads. A single point of accountability who represents the chapter within the global network.
- Dynamic Governance Alignment. Local autonomy within a shared governance framework that ensures transparency and consent-based decision making.
- Regular Check-ins. Ongoing communication between local chapters and the global team to maintain alignment and support.
- Clear Exit Terms. If a chapter decides to leave the network, there will be a respectful process for transitioning the name, assets, and community communications.
Moving Forward
We are already in conversations about new chapters in multiple cities. The cyberdelic movement is bigger than any one organization, and we are committed to growing it with integrity, coherence, and care.
If you are interested in starting or joining a local Cyberdelic Society chapter, we would love to hear from you.
The Vision Behind All of This
Cyberdelic Nexus is a global ecosystem designing humane technologies, immersive experiences, and cultural frameworks that help people turn altered states of consciousness into lasting traits: greater clarity, metacognition, creativity, and relational depth.
We bring together creators, technologists, researchers, and curious explorers who recognize that powerful experiences alone are not enough. Without integration, without practice, without shared frameworks, insights dissolve.
The field of cyberdelics, where neuroscience, contemplative practice, immersive technology, experience design, and psychedelic research converge, is rich with potential but scattered across disconnected subcultures, tools, and disciplines. We exist to bridge that gap, connecting the people, practices, and knowledge shaping what it means to be human in an age of rapid technological transformation.
Our aim is to build wiser and more humane relationships with technology, reality, and each other, and to help people navigate the challenges of the 21st century with more presence, imagination, and agency.
Join Us
This vision cannot be built from the center alone. It needs local stewards, practitioners, creators, and community builders who care deeply about this work and want to bring it to life where they are.
If you share this vision and want to help build the decentralized network of local Cyberdelic Society chapters around the world, we want to hear from you. Whether you are in Berlin, Mexico City, London, São Paulo, Tokyo, or anywhere else, there is a place for you in this ecosystem. Reach out. Let's build this together.
To those of you who have been part of this journey with us, thank you. Your presence, your curiosity, and your commitment to expanding what is possible between humans and technology means more than you know.
öWe are still here, and there is much more to come.
