A bio-responsive VR experience coupling breathwork with a changing virtual environment to explore interoception, exteroception, and altered states.
ℹ️Experience Information
About the experience
Altered States of Viscereality by ALIUS Research Group links breathing patterns to responsive VR. Run only with an approved breathing protocol and dedicated facilitation; do not casually coach prolonged hyperventilation.
🌀 Context Engineering Tips:
- Prepare for Breathwork: Before beginning, familiarize yourself with the breathing techniques you'll use. Whether circular breathing or controlled hyperventilation, practice a few cycles outside VR to establish comfort and safety with the pattern.
- Create a Safe Space: Ensure you're in a comfortable, private environment where you won't be disturbed. This experience can induce profound altered states - having a trusted guide or friend nearby (if needed) can provide reassurance during deeper explorations.
- Set Clear Intentions: Take time to reflect on what you hope to explore or discover. Are you seeking self-dissolution, therapeutic insight, or simply curiosity about altered consciousness? Your intention can guide and shape the journey.
- Trust the Breath-VR Coupling: Allow the visual environment to synchronize naturally with your breathing rhythm. Don't force the connection - instead, surrender to the biofeedback loop and let your interoception and exteroception merge organically.
- Embrace Body Awareness: Pay close attention to internal bodily sensations as they arise. Notice your heartbeat, the expansion of your lungs, tingling sensations, or temperature changes. This interoceptive focus is key to the dissolution experience.
- Gradual Integration: After the session, take significant time to return to baseline consciousness. Sit quietly, drink water, and ground yourself before resuming normal activities. Consider journaling about insights, sensations, or any therapeutic revelations that emerged.

Setup & access requirements
- Confirm the approved build, sensor connection, breathing protocol, and emergency stop with Jose/Tirso before running.
- If account access is needed, use Metanoic Vision; contact Jose on Telegram. Account email: jm@josemontemayor.com.
- Fit and test sensors before headset placement; provide water and a stable seated/reclined position.
How to facilitate
- Explain how breathing changes the world and agree on an immediate stop signal.
- Begin with natural breathing and let the visual coupling establish gradually.
- Stay one-to-one and monitor breathing quality, colour, responsiveness, tingling, panic, dizziness, and loss of coordination.
- Stop breath intensification if the guest feels faint, distressed, confused, or unable to follow instructions.
- Return to normal breathing, offboard slowly, ground with water/quiet, and ask: “What changed when your breath and the environment began responding together?”
Troubleshooting
- No bio-response → check sensor contact, connection, permissions, and calibration.
- Visual coupling delayed → return to natural breathing, recalibrate, then relaunch.
- Guest lightheaded/distressed → stop immediately, normal breathing, remove equipment, seat/ground, escalate.
- App/sensor failure → quit/reconnect/relaunch; mark unavailable if unresolved.
