Quick Summary

The Oscilleditor is a GUI tool developed by QRI for modeling psychedelic visual phenomenology using coupled oscillators. It allows users to reconstruct and study non-ordinary visual experiences through advanced features like spatial drifting and chaotic coupling. The tool integrates insights from previous research and aims to create structured datasets linking subjective experiences to neurodynamics, offering significant scientific value. Instruction manuals and tutorials are available for users.

Brief Summary

The Oscilleditor is QRI’s new phenomenology-modeling suite. It's a GUI designed and optimized to replicate and parameterize psychedelic visual phenomenology using systems of coupled oscillators. Built from years of research (including legal psychedelic retreats, advanced visual psychophysics, and detailed phenomenological work), as well as recent algorithmic insights, it enables users to reconstruct, study, and share non-ordinary phenomenology using:

  • Multiple fields of coupled oscillators interacting with each other • DeepDream-style feature visualization layers • Spatial drifting • Retinotopic log-polar transforms • Asymmetric chaotic coupling kernels (strange attractors) • Dynamic edge/depth-responsive kernels

The tool generalizes the ideas behind QRI’s Tracer Tool and integrates novel insights from HEART (heart.qri.org). The result is a new paradigm for modeling exotic visual states, mapping the dynamical state-space of visual phenomenology, and building structured, crowdsourced, datasets that connect subjective experience to underlying neurodynamics. Parameter submissions may be of significant scientific value (!).
